Marketing Division
AFCNA Marketing Division activities include collection, value added processing, and marketing of member produced alpaca fiber. Marketing Division net proceeds are returned to fiber contributing shareholders in proportion to their contribution.
The Marketing Division strives to maximize proceeds returned to shareholders by accessing economies of scale not avialable to individual fiber producers.
Specific Marketing Division activities may include:
- Fiber Collection, including organizing regionally based collection centers and/or some subsidization of collection/shipping costs
- Sorting/Grading
- Scouring
- Processing into batts, rovings, yarn, etc.
- Product development and improvement
- Manufacture of finished products, such as our reknowned Extreme Alpaca™ Socks
- Commercial sales of member produced fiber at any point in the value added chain
Marketing Division operations reflect our roots as a traditional agricultural marketing cooperative. Other well known examples of marketing cooperatives include Ocean Spray Cranberries, Blue Diamond Almonds, Sun Maid Raisens, etc.
